PM Modi's recent case for privatisation apart, majority of Indians in the Hindi belt want the government to run many businesses & not the private sector.

PRASHNAM asked 4912 adults across Rajasthan, Haryana, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh about their preference on whether the Govt or Private sector should be running many businesses.

Do you think Govt should own & run many businesses or the private sector should do it?

62% said Govt

20% said Private sector

18% had no opinion

There was no significant difference when the results were stratified by town class.

Survey Method: Samples were selected in a randomised and stratified manner using scientific techniques. Opinions were gathered using interactive voice response technology.
