Nearly 85% of households in Bihar, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra have a monthly income of less than Rs 20,000.

65% said their income was less than Rs 10,000 a month
19% said their income was between Rs 10,000 and 20,000 a month
10% said their income was between Rs 20,000 and 40,000 a month
6% said their income was greater than Rs 40,000 a month

65% said their income was less than Rs 10,000 a month
20% said their income was between Rs 10,000 and 20,000 a month
8% said their income was between Rs 20,000 and 40,000 a month
7% said their income was greater than Rs 40,000 a month

Bihar

68% said their income was less than Rs 10,000 a month
18% said their income was between Rs 10,000 and 20,000 a month
8% said their income was between Rs 20,000 and 40,000 a month
6% said their income was greater than Rs 40,000 a month

Rajasthan

65% said their income was less than Rs 10,000 a month
20% said their income was between Rs 10,000 and 20,000 a month
10% said their income was between Rs 20,000 and 40,000 a month
5% said their income was greater than Rs 40,000 a month

Maharashtra

59% said their income was less than Rs 10,000 a month
23% said their income was between Rs 10,000 and 20,000 a month
11% said their income was between Rs 20,000 and 40,000 a month
7% said their income was greater than Rs 40,000 a month

Tamil Nadu

67% said their income was less than Rs 10,000 a month
16% said their income was between Rs 10,000 and 20,000 a month
11% said their income was between Rs 20,000 and 40,000 a month
5% said their income was greater than Rs 40,000 a month

Survey Method: Samples were selected in a randomised and stratified manner using scientific techniques. Opinions were gathered using interactive voice response technology.
